MumAwayFromHome is a service providing relocation support for international students from the moment they arrive in Melbourne, Australia. It can be overwhelming moving to a new country and trying to understand the local cultures, customs, communicating with others and even just knowing how to get things done.
MumAwayFromHome will assist in helping international students familiarise themselves with their new environment, enabling them to enjoy their stay from the moment they arrive and help them to focus on the main reason they are here - to study!
HOMESTAY IN MELBOURNE:
For 8 years I have been a homestay mum for international students. I have also assisted many students when they first arrive in Australia. My family and I have hosted university, high school and english language and primary school students from all over the world helping them to become accustomed with and settle into the Australian way of life.
It can be very difficult when leaving your family, friends and support group. Moving to a foreign country can be intimidating and bring on feelings of loneliness and homesickness. At this time, it is very important to have a support person who is going to be there for you and assist in the practicalities of everyday life in a new country.
With my homestay mum experience, I know that the first month of living in Australia is the most challenging time. International students require local assistance to help establish their lives in Australia. They find Australian culture and customs confusing which in turn makes it difficult to obtain a sense of belonging.
