For 8 years I have been a homestay mum for international students.   I have also assisted many students when they first arrive in Australia.   

My  family and I have hosted University, High School, English Language and Primary School students from all over the world helping them to become accustomed and settle into the Australian way of life.  

It can be very difficult for children and young adults to move away   from their parents and support group.     Moving to a foreign country can be intimidating and bring on feelings of loneliness and homesickness.  At this time, it is very important to have a support person who is going to be there for them and assist in the practicalities of everyday life in a new country.

With my homestay mum experience, I know that the first month of living in Australia is the most challenging time.   International students require local assistance to help establish their lives in Australia.  They find Australian culture and customs confusing which in turn makes it difficult to obtain a sense of belonging.

Mum Away From Home helps international students become confident and familiar in their new country.   The service assists them until they have a network of friends and have settled into their new homes, schools, colleges or university.
